About the Montford / Madison Park Neighborhood
Montford/Madison Park became one of Charlotte’s first modern, post-World War II neighborhoods in the 1950s catering to middle-class families with sidewalks and bike lanes. The community blossomed around entertaining hangouts on Montford Drive and the restaurants in Park Road Shopping Center, which was developed as the first open-air shopping center in the city in 1956.
Today, the shopping center is home to AMC Park Terrace 6 movie theater as well as many local stores to keep shopaholics satisfied. Find your next read at Park Road Books, nourish your green thumb with new plants at Blackhawk Hardware’s garden center or find home décor at Classic Attic or High Cotton Home Company, find the perfect outfit at K|LA Boutique, embrace your inner maestro at Music & Arts or find a thoughtful gift for the cigar lover in your life at McCranie’s Pipe and Tobacco Shop.
